SBC Business Person of the Year Gala Luncheon

The SBC Gala Luncheon recognizes business men and women in the small business community who have demonstrated success in both civic and professional areas, specifically in the areas of: growth, leadership, achievement and community service. Candidates are nominated by their peers and a selection committee reviews applications and selects finalists. The Luncheon celebrates the ultimate winners in each of two categories: 50 or fewer employees and more than 50 employees.

This event has evolved into one of the premier, networking and business-recognition events in the Greater Rochester area. This is the largest fund raising event held by the SBC of Rochester.

Annual SBC Renee Tschetter Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing

This fundraiser golf outing is an 18-hole, “scramble” format tournament, typically held in September. Participants look forward to this event as it is one of the last of the local summer tournaments.

A 12:00 p.m. shotgun start is followed by a networking reception and dinner. Participants enjoy the day’s events and appreciate being on the road, home (or even back to the office) by 7:00 p.m.

Proceeds help provide scholarships – named in honor of a former SBC Board Member Renee Tschetter – to local high school or college students pursuing careers in business.

SBC Cares Programs

Backpack Give Back

With an overwhelming 52% of children in the Greater Rochester area living in poverty, the purchase of school supplies is a burden. The goal of the SBC Cares Backpack Giveback program is to provide students in need with backpacks filled with school supplies at the beginning of each school year. SBC members can rally their companies’ employees to purchase school supplies and build backpacks, or decide to make a monetary donation to this cause.

In 2017, the SBC donated over 800 backpacks to students in need!

SBC Cares Thanksgiving Food Drive

Each year, individual and corporate members of the Small Business Council of Rochester provide Thanksgiving food boxes to families in need. This event takes place the Friday before Thanksgiving, as participating companies drop off their food boxes to a specified location. The next day, dozens of volunteers gather to deliver the baskets to local, not-for-profit organizations who serve these families.

Each year, the SBC seeks to meet the needs of more than 3,000 local families. In total, over the more than 20 years this program has been in place, the SBC has donated cash equivalents of over $1,000,000 in food supplies to families in need.
